“We’re all going on a summer holiday.” Well, it’ll be a slightly different type of summer holiday for most this summer as travelling abroad is pretty much off the table and UK hotels, caravan sites and campsites are fast filling up since the government announced they could reopen.
What do you do instead? Stay at home and make a holiday of it there instead, we say, using your garden and conservatory as central figures in your ‘Homecation’.
The only issue you may incur is that your conservatory overheats in hot weather. To resolve that, you need a solid roof fitting to the extension.
TWC has two of the main replacement conservatory roofing systems in its range (the Guardian Warm Roof and UltraRoof 380) which we can install in place of your current glass or polycarbonate roof.
Never again will you feel it get too hot, nor too cold in the wintertime. They’re really easy to fit too, so you won’t be waiting too long to enjoy the benefits of a solid roofed extension.
If they are resilient enough to hold up the weight of a solid roof, your current windows and doors won’t need replacing. However, you might want to replace them anyway if they are only single glazed and have poor insulating glass.
Consider having an extra door put in too, namely either a set of French, patio or bi-folding doors.
They will give you the option of opening the extension out, which will be a real blessing on those roasting hot days. When that breeze hits you, it will feel so good! Easy accessibility to your garden is also handy for when you want to eat outdoors or lie back on a sun lounger and enjoy the weather.
Is using your garden in summer one of your favourite things to do? Add some greenery to the extension so that you don’t miss it too much when conditions outside stop you from getting out there. By ‘greenery’, we mean plants.
12 months ago, Gardeners’ World Magazine made up a list of what they regard as being the 10 best plants for conservatories. Here’s what they came up with:
- Mandevilla
- Bougainvillea
- Hoya
- Plumbago
- Sarracenia
- Lapageria
- Strelitzia
- Hymenocallis
- Aristolochia
- Cacti and succulents
Put your plants in prominent spots around the conservatory interior, and while doing it, take away any thick, warm textures still on your furniture from the winter. Exchange them for plush, soft coverings and cushions, maybe with floral patterning to give off a summery effect.
TWC is now offering Private Appointments to customers who wish to talk or view our products with just a consultant present. They can provide more advice on making your conservatory summer-ready.
