How do I measure for a bay window? Do I need to bring measurements to my appointment?
You’re not obliged to take window measurements ahead of a design appointment, but they will be useful.
Once a commitment is made by you to the installation of new bay and bow windows, a date will be organised for a surveyor to come out and take the necessary measurements.
Don’t let that stop you from arriving at your design appointment with some measurements of your own though as they will prove insightful. To measure up, record the length of your existing windows crossways and do the same again but include the window frame this time. This will tell us how many glass panes should be incorporated into the replacement designs.
If you could also take some photographs of your current windows, that would be really appreciated, as well some internal and external shots of the house around where the replacements will be fitted. From this, our design team can manufacture bay and bow windows that match your home’s needs and your individual requirements.
What material can I have my replacement window made in? How long does it take to install bay windows?
UPVC and aluminium are the two material options for bay and bow windows.
TWC is insistent that its customers get to dictate everything to do with their bay and bow window design so that it mimics their personality. You can either have them manufactured from UPVC or aluminium.
UPVC is the most traditional of the two materials and synonymous for being versatile and resilient. It’s easily customisable, so you can tailor UPVC bay and bow windows to effortlessly complement any existing doors without difficulty.
Aluminium is notoriously modern in its look, and you can identify aluminium bay and bow designs by their sleekness and lightweight composition. Practically any coloured finish can be sprayed onto the aluminium frames so that the applied shade meets your design aspirations.
There’s no right or wrong choice as UPVC and aluminium both endure for a considerable time, offer the best in security and are simple to maintain.
For a qualified opinion on which material to select, let a TWC advisor know your goals and they will suggest what they believe is the finest solution.

Do I need planning permission for bay windows?
TWC will uncover if a planning application needs to be submitted for a bay and bow window installation.
Not often is a bay and bow window installation subject to planning permission, but there may be certain regulations imposed by your local authority that require you to obtain consent first for the project to proceed.
In most instances, bay and bow windows can be fitted under Permitted Development Rights, but there are odd exceptions at times. Consulting with the relevant planning authority first will evade any penalties.
Rules for replacement window projects in conservation areas are especially strict as only very specific replacement window designs are allowed to be used for window applications. These rules are subject to regular change, and you need to be aware of them ahead of doing anything in areas of historical importance.
TWC will approach your local planning authority on your behalf to ascertain what the present regulations are so that you don’t have to deal with all the red tape and can just focus your mind squarely on the final installation.
