In it, you’ll uncover how to prepare your house ahead of our fitters turning up, how it all works and the level of aftercare we provide to customers.
Have no doubt that our goal is to make you happy and in order to achieve that, we keep installations hassle-free for you.
Whether you’re a repeat TWC customer or this is your maiden time employing our expertise, once you’ve read the guide, you’ll be left completely in-the-know about home installations.
Before the Installation: Prep & Planning
Fail to prepare, prepare to fail! Not that we ever would, but it’s a timely reminder that the groundwork has to be put in for an installation to be successfully completed. A start point will be an initial site survey so that we can assess what we will need to do and then quote you accordingly.
An order confirmation will see us undertake a full site survey. Its purpose is so we can take the precise measurements we need, do a thorough analysis of where the installation will take place, and generally ensure things are ready to go.
In the event of planning and building regulations consent being necessary, TWC will ably assist.
A work itinerary will be supplied within a short time of ordering and the timescale of it will hinge on what product you choose and how busy our manufacturing facility is at the time.
The Purpose of an Initial Site Survey
Accurate window, door and conservatory costings can only be calculated after an initial site survey has been carried out. It helps us get our heads around the scale of the project, record some preliminary measurements, and learn about your house, putting us on course for a smooth undertaking with no difficulties.
The Full Survey
A full survey will be organised shortly after you have decided to proceed with an order. That’s when exact measurements will be recorded and more thorough site checks performed for a meticulous installation.
Whilst doing the measuring up, TWC’s surveyors will check to see if anything might hamper the installation, like site access problems or building complications. Identifying issues early on reduces the risk of us facing problems further down the line and holding things up.
Gaining Required Permissions
Certain home improvement projects can only commence once planning permission or building regulations approval has been obtained.
Don’t let it daunt you as TWC will organise it on your behalf with our usual efficiency.
First off, we’ll tell you about the rules and regulations and then draft the documentation that needs forwarding to your local authority. Never would we begin work on a project without such approvals to avoid falling foul of the laws.
Assistance offered by TWC on regulatory matters is done earnestly, but you’re the person that’s ultimately responsible for securing the relevant consents, including Planning Permissions, Building Regulations, Build Over Agreements, Management Company Approvals, Party Wall Act Agreements etc.
During the Project: How it Will Progress
Making a good first impression, expect our fitting team to arrive on time and politely introduce themselves to you. Pleasantries done, final checks will then be conducted, both of the work space and the products set to be installed.
Safety precautions will be obeyed at every stage of the project for the protection of the team and our customers. We kindly request that no pets or young children are allowed near the work area.
Prior to getting started, surfaces will be covered with dust sheets to prevent dirt forming on them and the installers won’t leave without cleaning up first.
Prelim Checks and Intros
So that you feel comfortable having them in your home, each fitter will make themselves known to you. Then it will be a case of explaining the work schedule, before the work begins.
Just prior to that point, the products will be carefully inspected in the improbable event of something going wrong during the transportation of them from the factory to your property.
Installation Phases & Safety Rules
Installations orchestrated by TWC are designed to be seamless and safe. Your furniture and window sills will be covered with dust sheets and you can anticipate the team cleaning up before they leave after each day and at the end of the project.
Safety is taken seriously everytime, and you can help us with it by refraining from allowing pets or young children to venture into the work area. More details on the safety steps taken will be supplied when you confirm an order.
Customer Presence for Queries
We plan everything to the last detail, but our fitters may want to raise a question with you or gain authority on a proposed recommendation.
Effort will be made so that you can get on with things whilst we’re working, but clarification may be sought at some point if it’s viewed as vital.
A Project Manager is appointed for each TWC installation and they’re your main point of contact for the duration of the project if you’d like anything addressed or explained. It’s their duty to ensure the smooth running of the installation from start to finish.
Achieving Contentment and Continual Support
The completion of the installation isn’t the end game as TWC follows it up with several vital steps. One of them is a walkthrough of the enhancement so you can inspect it closely and see what you think.
Submission of final payment is when you will take receipt of the product guarantee and a Care & Maintenance Guide. A demonstration of the product will be given to you and we’ll remove your old windows and doors for loading in the van, ready for recycling.
Even after the fitters have left your house for the final time, TWC’s service engineer department remains available for any aftercare, and we’d appreciate it if you offered some feedback.
The Final Walkthrough
You’ll receive word when the installation is finalised and be given a final walkthrough of it as we want you to be satisfied with our work.
It’s a chance to alert us to anything you feel could be improved so that the necessary adjustments can be made before we wave you goodbye.
Guarantee Handover & Documents
Keep the 20-year guarantee in a safe place, but not before you give it a good read, and the same goes for the Care and Maintenance Guide.
Our guarantee offers reliable product cover, should you ever run into any issues, and the maintenance advice tells you how to care for the investment and possibly extend its life.
Steadfast Aftercare & Critique
We have a service engineer department responsible for handling calls from customers seeking aftercare. They will look to efficiently resolve any problems you’re encountering with your product.
When you have a few spare moments, please leave us a review on either our Facebook or Trustpilot pages so that we can understand what we did well and where improvements can be made.
Old Product Recycling
TWC is committed to sustainability and will suitably recycle your old windows and doors in an ethical manner.
Reducing waste is just one of the eco-friendly practices that we adhere to, limiting the impact we have on the planet.
Frequently asked questions
How long do your installations take?
Installation timescales are dependent on the type of product that is being fitted. In the case of conservatories, 8 weeks is the usual wait after the submission of planning and building regulations applications. Then it will be around 6-8 weeks from the beginning of excavation to the conclusion of the screed, subject to what design you commission. If it involves a brand-new base, it may need to dry out for up to 4 weeks before the framework can be done. In general, building and installing a conservatory structure takes about 7-14 days.
The wait time for windows and doors is shorter and identical quality is assured. Largely, 4-5 windows can be installed into brickwork in a single day, but it could stretch beyond that if rendering is involved or complications arise. A couple of sliding sash windows take about a day too, particularly those incorporating box sash removals. For a residential door, you’re looking at half a day, whilst a bi-folding door is usually a full day’s work. Our projects are all bespoke, so timespans can differ.
Is it essential that I’m at home for the installation?
We don’t specify that you have to be around whilst the work is going ahead, but it can be helpful for our installers in case they have any questions or need your input on something. When doing a conservatory installation, access is required to power, water and welfare facilities. For all other installations, TWC will coordinate it with you in advance so that no difficulties slow our progress.
What can I do to prepare my property?
First off, can you try and ensure that we have a parking space when we turn up to the house. We’d also be grateful if you notify us of any parking restrictions. It does no harm to let the neighbours know about the work so they know to possibly expect a bit of noise. Relocate things like cables and fragile items that are in the vicinity of the area, and remove nearby curtains and blinds.
Do you have an aftercare service?
It would be poor form if we didn’t! Two decades of aftercare support is available to all TWC customers, so you’re not deserted once the installation process is complete. Reach out for aftercare if e.g., a lock is sticking or a door doesn’t perform like it’s meant to and a service engineer will be over to take care of it quickly.
