You can identify a conservatory from an orangery, and vice versa, by the volume of glass in the design. A conservatory traditionally has more glass, but you can still have lots of glass in an orangery, as this installation proves. The glass roof that sits on top of the design is immense and there’s definitely no shortage of sunshine coming in. The accompanying patio doors and windows also contribute towards the brightness felt inside and that’s why the orangery gets used frequently for reading, gaming and plenty toy playing. It also helps that it’s so big!
Knowing that there would be occasions when their kids would want to play outside, the occupiers asked for patio doors to be incorporated into the orangery. These patio doors have elegant side panelling and can be smoothly manoeuvred open to make the garden instantly accessible – that swingball is seeing plenty of action! Shutting the orangery off and standing in its confines is when you really see how much detail has gone into fashioning the structure and how there seems to be glass everywhere. Outside is no less impressive, particularly when you gain sight of the roofing system and side window set. Few orangeries can better this example!
