Glass Roof Orangery With Patio Doors
An orangery installation leads to the introduction of an open-plan layout
The Morley’s have so much more space to play with indoors, thanks to their glass roof orangery. It’s a place they like to chill out in and enjoy the ambience.
Only a short time after relocating to a new three-bedroom, semi-detached house, the Morleys got the exciting news that their first child was on the way. This would necessitate more space, but they didn’t want to relocate again so quickly, especially as they had grown attached to the property. Extending seemed the logical solution as there was the capacity to do it, and it would also bring their home and garden close together.
They needed to see some extensions first, so they headed to a showroom where there are many fully furnished examples on display. The extension that most stopped them in their tracks was one with an open-plan kitchen diner, as they liked the idea of much of their home living taking place in one sole area. We emulated the design, and they find that it attracts an abundance of natural light, but somehow without overheating.
Presenting the kitchen design in 3D during a design appointment was the moment that the Morleys said “yes” to the extension. It gave them a realistic perspective of what life would be like inside the extension and it thrilled them. The installation couldn’t proceed until Building Regulations Approval had been obtained, and the Morley’s were happy that we could organise this for them. Within six weeks of the design being approved, the orangery was constructed at their house.
The orangery has been lavished with praise by friends and family of the couple, with many remarking on how it has the feel of a proper extension. At the Morleys request, we incorporated some sliding patio doors into the orangery, enabling them to remain inside whilst watching their son enjoying himself in the garden. The solar control glazing in the roof prevents the weather from getting in.
