Benefits of an Orangery
When you imagine an extension to your home, you likely picture it having features similar to traditional orangeries, such as a high proportion of brickwork. Known for their bright and spacious feel, orangeries boast an impressive glass roof, offering the practicality that any homeowner hopes to achieve. Available in a range of colours and styles, they can transform your home in remarkable ways.
The most difficult decision you will face is whether to opt for a classic or contemporary design. No matter your choice, an orangery will be the perfect addition to your living space.

Customizable Orangeries for Every Home
TWC likes to give its customers the maximum of choice and our orangeries are no exception to that long-running ethos. For an orangery with subtle touches of traditional but modern at heart, have a look at our contemporary orangeries. It will have the familiar solid brick structure of a traditional design and an interior to match.
What does make it different though is the absence of a flat perimeter around the roofing system. You won’t be able to get enough of the space and will forever be using it.

Get the Look!
The insertion of intelligent glazing into our modern glass roofs will assure you of a well-regulated living space. When winter comes around you won’t feel the space to be too cold, nor will it be too hot in summer. Instead, the temperature will be just perfect.
A key question
Would you like an orangery that’s very much in character with your house or are you more concerned about it enhancing your garden? The answers to these sorts of questions will dictate the design.

Orangeries - FAQs
Curious about orangery costs, the differences between orangeries and conservatories, or planning permission? Discover price ranges, key structural differences, and planning guidelines to ensure a smooth build process.
What’s the difference between a conservatory and an orangery?
We get asked this a lot and the primary difference between a conservatory and orangery is structural.
Conservatories are principally glazed, with a glass roof covering, which is why they have a very vibrant and open feeling interior.
On the flip side, an orangery is characterised by its wealth of brickwork, solid pillars and boasting fewer glazed sections, explaining how it’s so well insulated.
Contemporary extensions often merge elements of the two, a hybrid solution giving you the best of both worlds.
If experiencing difficulty knowing whether to buy a conservatory or orangery, we advise you to consider the kind of atmosphere you want the extension to generate – something light and airy or immensely solid.
How much does an orangery cost?
Your outlay on an orangery will be dependent on the size of the extension, what materials are harnessed to construct it, how much personalisation is involved and whether extras like underfloor heating are requested. As an indicator of price, you could be looking at paying around £20,000 to £50,000+.
That’s a rough price guide. We’ll be better placed to provide a tailored costing once you have discussed your requirements with the TWC team, who will tell you how the process works and do the important job of designing an orangery that aligns with your budget and desires.
Do I need planning permission for an orangery?
Any orangery that adheres to the guidelines stipulated in permitted development rights will generally not require planning permission. There can be exceptions for properties situated in a protected area or of historical importance, so it’s advisable to get official confirmation from your local authority.
Desist from commencing with an orangery installation until you have this clarity as it will avoid you running into any problems or being penalised. A local authority has the power to order you to modify the orangery post-build if it contravenes any rules, which will then necessitate submission of a retrospective planning application. There’s no guarantee that this will be accepted and failure to obey planning guidelines has in some cases led to orangery structures being demolished.
With TWC project managing things, we’ll see that no rules are broken.

A long-lasting, inexpensive and weather-resistant material...
UPVC is very commonly used for the construction of orangery designs as it is resistant to almost anything and has the enduring strength you need for such a vast structure. The contours and dimensions you get on a UPVC frame also make an orangery look tremendously authentic and imposing.
Envisage windows will add that bit of class to your orangery…
It’s the finish on our Envisage windows that will really give your orangery some life. When selecting a colour for them, bear in mind the roof style and framework that you have. You can’t make a bad decision though as our coloured finishes look great in all our orangery designs.
Aluminium offers unbeatable sleekness and beauty…
The vast majority of contemporary orangeries are constructed from aluminium as it gives them a modern feel, particularly when they also include aluminium bi-folding doors. Aluminium frames can also be amazingly slim and this allows the addition of huge glazed sections for those that want to prioritise glass over framing. The final sophisticated touch is the powder-coated finish or sublimated woodgrain effect.
Rely on the glass to keep you cosy…
We have developed three different glazed roofing systems for our orangeries – the Classic Roof, Cornice Roof and Lantern Roof. If it’s modesty that you want, our Classic Roof is the solution to go for, with our Cornice Roof and Lantern Roof a more suitable option for those who want a roof that will get people talking. The detail in each of these roofing systems is quite breathtaking.
Craftsmanship you can only admire…
If it looks like a lot of work has gone into our traditional and contemporary handles, that’s because it’s true. Our craftspeople take tremendous care when producing these exquisite handles.
